Parts are Stacking Up!

We know most of you really want to know how manufacturing is going, so let's jump into it.

Manufacturing has been progressing at a steady clip, and we've already received parts for our Early Beta glasses.  It hasn't been without some hurdles along the way, and we're incredibly happy to have Joe on the factory floor, inspecting all of our parts and ensuring the quality is top notch.

Everyone meet Joe:

Joe has been an integral part of our team, helping us to keep production moving forward.  We're now in full production for LE, XE, and group pack parts, and we have our Early Beta parts ready for assembly.  We've already shipped a few Early Beta kits, and the rest will follow soon.  Special thanks to those Early Beta backers that helped us work through some final issues in preparation for sending the remaining Early Beta kits out.

We're getting closer and closer to shipping kits, and we'll do our best to keep everyone informed as we near that magical date.

Chuck's Challenge 3D 2020 is Coming Your Way!

For all of our Kickstarter backers who are receiving glasses kits, we're happy to send you Steam Keys for another Tilt Five compatible game!  Check your email inboxes later today.  For those of you that backed for multiple kits, you'll be receiving a Steam Key for every kit.  Once you receive your kits, you'll have access to the Tilt Five version for free!

Chuck's Challenge 3D 2020 is a fiendishly addictive puzzler from the design veteran behind the classic game Chip's Challenge and developer Niffler Ltd.  It's packed with fun features, include a level editor, that enables you to create your own challenging levels, which you can then share with others.

"Meet Woop, just your everyday puzzle lovin’ purple alien capable of altering time and space. Woop has summoned all-round puzzle game legend Chuck Sommerville for one purpose - to create a universe of puzzles for him to work his way out of. Take control of Woop and help him navigate his way through level after level of obstacles and challenges that stand between him and reaching the exit portal. Shift blocks, find keys, flip switches, wade through water, hot-foot it through lava and do everything it takes to make it out in one piece and evade an army of hungry creatures who want nothing more than to turn our purple hero into a nice ‘n tasty Woop Sandwich."

We hope you'll enjoy Chuck's Challenge 3D 2020 as much as we do, and we hope you'll share your own level creations with us.   If you share your levels on Twitter, mention @TiltFive, and if we find your levels to be super fun and challenging we may just send you a T5 shirt.

That's all for now.  Thanks for all of your patience as we get closer to shipping kits to you all.  Have fun playing Chuck's Challenge 3D 2020, and stay awesome.

SDK Preview

If you haven't had an opportunity to check out the Tilt Five SDK Preview, here's a quick video from Jonathan, letting you all know how easy it is to get started using it.

Jonathan has been hard at work listening to feedback and adding new tools to the Preview SDK.  In fact, he just rolled out some additional tools to everyone today.

Manufacturing and SDK Preview Updates

Manufacturing Update

Although we’re still experiencing some delays in manufacturing, we’re beginning to produce parts in larger quantities now. Once we have all the parts we can start the full assembly process. We’ll keep everyone informed as things progress.

We’ve sent out a few Early Beta glasses to a very small group of brave beta testers. They’ll be testing the units for us, and they’ll be providing us with feedback which we’ll use to correct any issues. We’ll then start shipping out additional Early Beta glasses in small batches, and we’ll be looking to get additional feedback from our Early Beta group. This will help us to address any remaining issues before we head into full assembly.

For now, enjoy this lovely GIF of wand parts being pulled from the tooling at one of the factories:

SDK Preview New Features

Our Early Beta backers and developers have been spending time with the SDK Preview, providing feedback and ideas for additional tools they'd like to see implemented, including tools that can assist with placement of virtual objects within the workspace.  We thought this was a great suggestion, so we just rolled out more tools that do exactly this.  Our backers are geniuses!

Added features include:

  • Added grid lines based on the selected unit in TiltFiveManager.
  • The grid can be raised or lowered to help align content above/below the Game Board.
  • There are centimeter/inch rulers on the edge of the gizmo.
  • The user's mouse cursor highlights the nearest grid lines.
  • Added a logo to the bottom-right corner of the Game Board gizmo- useful for orienting the developer in the scene and aligning assets.
  • Tweaked behavior when changing units or scaling the Game Board- instead of growing/shrinking the Game Board gizmo, the scene grows/shrinks instead.

After the Early Beta backers have more time to review the new tools, they'll be rolled out to everyone.

You can get the SDK Preview here.

That's it for now.  We hope you all have a monstrously fun weekend!

SDK Preview and Manufacturing Update
almost 4 years ago – Sat, May 02, 2020 at 03:46:45 AM

It's been a while since we shared an update with you all, so it's high time we let you all know how things are going.

Tilt Five SDK Preview Release!

We told you all this was coming, and now it's here!  The SDK Preview is something that we've wanted to get into your hands for a while now.  It's designed to help you, as developers, start familiarizing yourselves with the SDK.  It has tools that will help you start setting up games for Tilt Five prior to having your glasses in hand.  For example, a game board tool allows you to overlay the game board onto your scene, so you can visualize placement and scale.  There are more tools as well, and we plan to expand the toolset going forward.

You can get the SDK Preview here.

We'd love your feedback, including what you, as developers, want.  Share your thoughts with us via our Discord.

Manufacturing Update

Our small team has been super busy coordinating manufacturing, software, and everything else that goes into running a company, all from our individual homes.  As most of you know, here in California, in Santa Clara County in particular, we've been complying with a "Shelter in Place" order since mid-March.  To keep things moving forward, we have daily video conferences with each other and regularly scheduled meetings with our manufacturing partners.  This has helped us in so many ways, including keeping our spirits and motivation up.

Obviously the manufacturing climate has changed a bit, and there have been hurdles we've had to figure out creative solutions for.  The inability to send our own staff to China to oversee the manufacturing of our parts is one such hurdle. It's always best to have staff on-site for these things, so what do you do when that's not possible?  You find a consultant who lives in the area of the factory and has expertise in the manufacturing process that you need to oversee, and you hire them to be your eyes and ears on the plant floor.  Voilà!  Hurdle jumped!

All this said, we know that many of you really want to know what this means in terms of our delivery timeline.  This is a tough question to answer precisely, although we can tell you all that we'll be starting to send out Early Beta glasses very soon.  Parts are coming in regularly now, and everything is lining up well for our main manufacturing run.   Once we have a better estimate regarding delivery we'll let everyone know.

Locking Orders on BackerKit

Orders will be locked in BackerKit on May 15th!

With our main manufacturing run starting, this means we need to lock the orders on BackerKit.  Everyone who has not completed their BackerKit survey needs to do so right away.  We have to have the final numbers in place to know how many units to produce and where to ship the kits to.  This also means that if you want to add something to your order, you need to do so now.

Additions, shipping, and any applicable taxes that were added onto your order will NOT be charged until we're within 30 days of shipping your kits to you, so you don't need to worry about that at this point.  Just complete your survey for us, so we have all the relevant information we need to produce and ship the units to you all.  Note, if you move prior to when we ship, you'll still have time to change your address in BackerKit.

Everyone have a wild wild weekend!
